Nature delivers what hyaluronic acid promises.
Hyaluronic acid is on everyone’s lips — or rather, deep within our skin, our joints, our eyes and many other parts of our body. There, it performs vital functions, binding water and helping keep tissue hydrated and elastic. However, what exactly is behind it?
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our skin. It belongs to a group known as polysaccharides — long-chain sugar molecules that are particularly good at binding water. You can think of them as tiny “hydration reservoirs” within the body.
Hyaluronic acid plays a central role in healthy, plump and well-hydrated skin.
- Hydration reservoir: It binds large amounts of water and holds moisture exactly where the skin needs it.
- Structure and firmness: Together with collagen and elastin, it helps keep skin smooth and elastic.
- Protective function: It forms part of the skin’s natural barrier, so applying hyaluronic acid can help support that barrier function. Because it binds so much moisture, it can also help reduce transepidermal water loss.
As we age, the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid levels decline, leaving it looking drier and less plump. This is where hyaluronic acid in cosmetic products can help replenish the skin’s moisture. It’s considered a well-tolerated ingredient.
Why is hyaluronic not enough?
A single source of hydration isn’t enough for us. To care for skin optimally, Dr. Hauschka relies on the interplay of several hydrating, protective plant compositions that, combined in this way, work more effectively than hyaluronic acid.* The plant extracts we use in the Hydrating Serum bring together a range of properties: as well as providing intensive moisture, they support the skin with further valuable effects, such as natural antioxidant protection. The result is an intensely nurturing product that strengthens the skin’s natural balance.
Our alternative: Dr. Hauschka’s hydrating serum.
Thanks to its innovative 2-in-1 active complex, Hydrating Serum Plus delivers long-lasting moisture and antioxidant protection. Through the combined action of natural moisturising ingredients such as quince, horsetail and prickly pear cactus, tests show that Hydrating Serum Plus achieves better hydration enrichment than a standard hyaluronic acid serum.*
