Nurturing plants

Bee beautiful.

How does one describe a master of transformation? Perhaps like this: Anthyllis, or kidney vetch, may always look a little different, but one thing never changes – it is a plant of many talents. It is a popular medicinal tea, but its balancing effect on the skin also makes it one of the key plants in Dr. Hauschka Skin Care. And bees love it too!

Either-or.

Yellow or orange flowers? Abundant or controlled growth? With anthyllis, it could be either-or. The plant's appearance changes depending on its location and growth phase. And because it’s so adaptable, the native southern European plant is now also at home in Asia, Africa and America.

Less is more.

Anthyllis isn't really into deep, rich soil, but favours slightly more meagre ground: its preferred habitats are roadsides, embankments and even sand dunes. There’s only one thing it can't get enough of, and that’s sunlight.

Insect fodder.

Anyone on the hunt for the caterpillar of our smallest butterfly species, the small blue, has come to the right place: it feeds solely on the plants colutea arborescens and anthyllis. And anthyllis nectar is also a favourite food of wild bees and butterflies.

Staying flexible.

It's no easy task to set firm boundaries while still remaining open to change. But with its adaptable nature, anthyllis helps your skin do just that – which promotes overall balance. That's why we use it wherever strength and stability is required, for example in our Balancing Day Lotion.

Powered by flowers.

Though anthyllis has been used as a medicinal plant since at least the 16th century, Elisabeth Sigmund, co-founder of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, discovered it as an effective ingredient in facial skin care in the 1960s. Since then, it has played a leading role in classics like our Facial Toner.
